As an engineer, my curiosity drove me to research and incorporate additional strategies to support my body's fight against cancer. I define "alternative treatments" as non-mainstream practices backed by research and anecdotal evidence, including dietary modifications, supplements, and lifestyle changes to enhance my overall well-being and treatment outcomes.

Initial Diagnosis and Traditional Treatments

The initial shock of my cancer diagnosis was overwhelming, but I quickly embarked on a rigorous traditional treatment plan. My oncologist prescribed a combination of chemotherapy drugs to address the advanced stage of my cancer, stressing the importance of maintaining my weight throughout the treatment.
Each chemotherapy session involved a three-day hospital stay with over 48 hours of continuous therapy, alongside periodic blood tests to monitor my white blood cell and hemoglobin levels. After six months, I underwent liver ablation surgery to remove eight tumors. I later had the rectal tumor excised via Transanal Total Mesorectal Excision (TaTME) using a da Vinci Surgical System.

Challenges and Limitations with Conventional Treatments

  • Severe Side Effects: I experienced nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, weakness, hair loss, and altered taste, which made it difficult to maintain my weight and strength.
  • Dietary Restrictions: Foods I once loved became unbearable, complicating my ability to nourish myself adequately.
  • Anemia and Blood Loss: Heavy bleeding from the rectal tumor led to anemia, necessitating simultaneous chemotherapy and radiation, which further weakened me.
  • Recurrent Cancer: Despite initial successes, my cancer recurred multiple times, with new tumors appearing on my liver, leading to additional surgeries and treatments.
  • Emotional and Mental Strain: The ongoing battle with cancer and its recurrence took a significant toll on my mental health, causing despair and hopelessness.
These challenges with conventional treatments prompted me to consider alternative therapies. The recurring nature of my cancer, despite following all medical advice, made me question if there were additional strategies I could employ to support my body and enhance my treatment outcomes. This curiosity and drive led me to explore complementary and alternative medicine.

Turning to Alternative Treatments

After multiple surgeries and rounds of chemotherapy, I felt a need to find additional ways to support my body and enhance my treatment outcomes. The turning point came when new tumors appeared on my liver despite following all medical advice. This reappearance made me question whether other strategies could complement my existing treatments.

Motivations and Initial Exploration

  • Persistent Recurrence: The return of cancer despite rigorous conventional treatment prompted me to look for additional strategies.
  • Severe Side Effects: The debilitating side effects of chemotherapy, such as nausea, vomiting, and weakness, made daily life extremely challenging.
